More on HLS embedded captions

We are pushing forward with embedding closed caption text in our HLS streams. We would, also, very much, like ViBlast to be able to display this content.  We are using a product named VLC Media Player as a display tool.  It can support this functionality but is clumsy to use.  We have put up a test stream with the embedded closed-captioning at "http://ott-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/224646/ottqa_1/index.m3u8".  When the 'Severe' section is playing, the closed caption text is available in the stream. There should be something we could do to get the CC and display it with the video?

It appears they switched the feed on me.  The current stream containing the embedded closed captioning is here: http://ott-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/224648/ottqa_3/index.m3u8

They changed the stream hosting the closed captioning.  The current stream is "http://ott-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/224648/ottqa_3/index.m3u8"

Hi Cliff,

Not sure what you have in mind. Can you provide us with more details. The testing stream you provided "http://ott-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/224646/ottqa_1/index.m3u8" has no CC at all. Where are the CC supposed to be embedded - the MPEG-TS stream or the HLS stream? Also there is no 'Severe' section, the stream is just some TV channel.

Best regards,
Svetlin

Hi Cliff,

I also tested with http://ott-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/224648/ottqa_3/index.m3u8 and http://ott-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/224648/ottqa_3/index.m3u8 but these streams also didn't contain any CC.

Currently Viblast supports only subtitles that are explicitly specified to the video element by a <track kind="subtitles" ..> tag. Viblast does not support subtitles embedded in the HLS stream or the MPEG-TS stream.

Viblast offers custom feature development. If you are interested then take a look at our plans and contact us for more info.

Best regards,
Svetlin
